Close but no cigar
It breaks my heart that such an awesome powerful and relevant message is canceled out by spots of poor acting, technical issues like obvious lip-sync problems and a performing artist that cannot pitch properly. The Afrikaans dialog was also weird and unnatural in places. I am an Afrikaans speaker, and we don't speak like that. It's great to use local people to play in the movie, but they needed more coaching. It was obvious that people were not comfortable in front of the camera. Releasing a movie with mistakes like this is almost unforgivable. I hope the producers learn from their mistakes. The Afrikaans film industry is in a renaissance, but this one unfortunately misses the mark. I believe this film could have been salvaged if the director had some higher standards and redid shoots until they were perfect. Hopefully somebody some day can tell the same story, but with more excellence and the world will take note.
