Skyggen (1998) Reviews
As the makers say - A Danish Blade Runner
This movie is somehow a different Danish movie. At this time the Dogme-agreement is mentioned all the time, but this movie has managed to become outstanding without being a Dogme-movie. Skyggen (or The Shadow) is not only characterized by great actors, but it's also a fine presentation of "computer-films". I like the way "Techno-staden" is build, and the way Lars Bom portrays JB is fantastic. He is a very fine actor! If you haven't already seen this movie - go see it. It's definitely worth spending time on.
Not that bad...
Nothing new in this movie if you have seen Blade Runner, Escape From New York and The Matrix, but for a Danish movie it is not that bad. More gory and sombre than you usually sees it. Las Bom is OK as the good guy, Jørgen Kiil is a respectable black hat and the ladies Rørbeck and Scharbau looks great as respectably Miauv and Barbie. The crime intrigue is too easily solved, but then it is Film Noir Sci-Fi, worth a look 5/10
A race against time in a dark neo noir Denmark
The look of this movie is definitely inspired by "Blade Runner", and it looks pretty cool. It's very dark, and there are a lot of people wearing strange clothes. I guess the directing is fine, but the acting is very superficial. And a lot of the so called one-liners completely tank! Also you've heard the story before: Our hero, J.B., has to find out who stole his boss' money or he dies. The whole race-against-time concept has been used several times before, and the use of it in this film isn't very good. Watch this movie for it's set design, because that is spectacular.
Great Hacker film.
While the original release, Webmaster, was poorly dubbed into English. This is still a great film. And now with the Advent of Second Life, from Linden Labs, this movie has some real premise on our lives. Very few movies ever come to define a subculture, several others creates the subculture. This one is one of the few that epitomizes and dramatizes two aspects of the internet. The dark-nets and Virtual Realities/Social Networking Sites. Webmaster is one of the few movies that always sits in queue on my play list. Especially while I'm hacking.
The best thing since The Matrix, see it now!
One of the best cyberpunk movies ever. The story of two people trying to find each other in a shadowy underworld where computers are everywhere. Atmospheric and fascinating. The story is kind of like Strange Days, but better. The music rules. Ignore the stupid box and just rent it, you won't be disappointed. 9 out of 10.
