  • Interesting Crime Documentary

I found this on Amazon Prime, and as a fan of true crime I decided to check it out. It's about a guy named Ronald Dominique, a serial killer who operated not far from New Orleans in the rural bayou area from the mid nineties to the mid 2000s. He preyed exclusively on men. Most of his victims were black, many were drug addicts or homeless. Some of them he picked up at gay bars, others he found on the street and lured them into his car with a ruse. He managed to take 23 lives before he was caught, making him one of the most prolific serial killers in the US even though most people have never heard of him and his case received little media coverage. What I hate about some true crime stuff is that they glamorize the killer and the crime. This documentary avoids making Dominique look like some Hanibal Lecter type. Instead he's comes across as pathetic, limping around with a cane and making up stories about how he somehow managed to accidentally kill his victims. They barely cover his life at all. Instead much of the doc focuses on the victim's families and the police investigation as well as the geographical area where he committed his crimes. It's well done although a little slow paced and some of the subjects interviewed can be difficult to understand. All in all, I definitely recommend this to True Crime or serial killer fans.
