  • Beautiful romance story

    Eglaya20032006-08-20

Don't let the title fool you. It's cheesy and mushy, but the movie surprised me. I didn't expect it to be so good. It grabs you and doesn't let you go. The plot is kinda simple - 18-year-old heir Kang Jaekyung (played by Bin Hyeon) is a spoiled brat who is used to getting everything he wants. Alas, he will be entitled to his grandfather's millions only if he will graduate at particular school in particular place. At first he is being rebellious and all, but then he realizes that he's seeing this girl Choi Eunwhan (played by Yeonhee Lee) more often. Of course, the title suggests that he will fall in love. But it's trickier than it seems, because Eunwhan has a heart-disease and then the changes begin. Everything is shown with such kindness and disengagement that it has ALMOST made me cry. I mean - ME, and I never cry during movies. What else. Well, nice job of director of photography and editor. Really nice. Also the OST is like wow. Do I have to tell you that I have the theme song on my play-list? :) And it is sung by Kim Jaejoong!! My baby <3 <3 + the whole TVXQ (Dong Bang Shin Ki) crew at the credits. Needless to say that I also have piano sheet music of Insa (theme song) and can read most of it in Hangul :) So yeah, if you want to see some true, natural and not exaggerated romance, this movie is for you. And guys, it has some fighting scenes as well :)

  • For the title, a surprisingly good movie.

First of all, let me preface this with that I am not a fan of Hyun-bin and his work. That being said, this movie introduces a new first time actress Lee, Hyeon-hee. At times I felt like punching myself in the face because she was so adorable. Her tears conveyed emotion to me, not Visine eye drop solution. I will be eagerly awaiting any new movies she will be in. Moving on to the actual movie, I was afraid this would be some sort of corny excuse to plaster the media with Hyun-bin's face; however, the movie itself is quite good. The short but sweet love story really picks up in the 2nd half of the film. I would cry and laugh at the same time our lead and ingénue did. Very few movies leave me satisfied at the way the movie concluded, this is one of them. Give it a shot, if not for the surprisingly good movie (albeit horribly titled) then for the ridiculously cute actress in her acting debut.

  • A sappy love story.

Jae-kyung had turned 18 and he is eligible to inherit his late grandfather's vast amount of fortunes. He went out with his friends and became arrogant in his ways. But, there was a catch in the will his grandfather left behind. He has to graduate from a small high school in the countryside because if that did not happened, he cannot totally inherit the entire fortune. Naturally it drove Jae-kyung mad. For someone who has quite an amount of money in his bank account, it was like a slap in the face. When he arrived at the place, he then realised how rural it was. The behaviour, mannerisms of the local people astounded him. There, he met the girl whom he actually once met many years ago when they were younger. It's his fellow classmate at his new school - Eun-hwan. He soon found out she had an illness which could not be cured. But Eun-hwan put on a brave face and pretended that nothing had happened and went on with her part-time job at the gas station and juggling with her studies at the same time. It was during those times Jae-kyung realises how much he likes her. It might be a sappy love story as the summary title has stated, but it's just a beautiful story which will move one who is watching it.

  • lots of emotions

    andjel_ko2006-04-19

i have seen this movie not expecting more than a simple evening movie to relax a little bit. at least i expected to cry or feel some deep emotions during the film. but it happened. i have seen many good Korean dramas but only few have left an effect as this movie. it was as nice and touching as You are my sunshine with a good, a little bit of the theme, introduction and a very good story that goes on more than one level and at the end we are to understand the entire story and feel happy for the things that happened. the title of the movie is a millionaire first love, but it is more a story of a girl to whom he is in love with because she carries all the strings and is connected with all the parts of the movie (except for the introduction) The movie is also well made, seems that Koreans got some money to do movies lately.

  • i had a good cry

    lady_tsunami292006-11-06

to be honest i watched this movie because Hyun Bin is good looking. Lee Yeon Hee looks like an anime character with that hair in a cute way. i had no high expectations. i just thought, "hmmm, a subbed movie. let's give it a try." i don't understand a word of Korean so English subs all the way! this movie was OK in the beginning, and maybe you knew what was gonna happen but it still made my eyes puffy from crying. i liked how they shot this scene where Hyun Bin remembers his mom bringing in clothes from the rain. and the part where he walks back home at night. it's funny to me. if you're a sucker for romance movies, watch this one :) and have a box of Kleenex.
