Auld Lang Syne (2016) Reviews
Clever but a bit exaggerated
"Auld Lang Syne" is a movie about one New Year's Eve, when three befriended couples come together in a cabin to celebrate and remember the old times. As the evening unravels, more and more cuts separating the old friends become visible. All in all this is a very decent movie. The production is of high value, you can clearly see that the whole team knew what they were doing. I always like the setting of friends coming together and sharing dark secrets, even though the concept is of course not really innovative. In this case, quite a few secrets get lifted, maybe even a few too many, since at a certain point it just becomes a bit unbelievable. I also didn't really like the attempts to turn the drama within the film into comedy, because thereby it loses some of its relevance. Nevertheless for a movie without the great budget, all the people involved delivered really great work and made this entertaining to watch. If you can handle a bit of dramatic tension and look for a modern film about human relationships and how they develop, this is a movie you'll like to watch.
